AFS exchange programs draw people from around the world who want to get to know people from other countries. Participants live with a host family while attending school gaining a fresh perspective on a foreign culture. By experiencing new cultures as outsiders, AFS Participants also gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their home cultures.

All AFS programs offer participants the opportunity to build meaningful connections with everyone they meet during their experiences abroad, as well as in their home countries and within the AFS global community. These bonds start to form throughout the application and orientation process, when participants meet each other for the first time. During the experience abroad, early friendships are strengthened and new friends are made at orientations and events organized by AFS in the host country. Participants will also meet countless people in the local community through their host families, schools, workplaces and through extracurricular activities.

Year Program:  The most popular of all our programs! This is a year-long immersion program lasting 10 to 12 months. You will stay with a host family and go to school.

Semester Program: This is a program with the same goals and structure as the Year Program but lasting 5 to 6 months.

Trimester Program: This is a program with the same goals and structure as the Year Program but lasting 3 months.

Summer Program:  Are you looking for an enjoyable and rewarding way of spending your summer? With its wide choice of programs and destinations, AFS Interculture Canada has a program for you!

School Groups:  AFS sends many groups on short-term programs to help communities in need, especially in Latin America. Most of the volunteer work is achieved in local primary schools. The group works together on a specific project and each participant lives with a local family. This program offers participants an introduction to international development work while extending the opportunity to increase familiarity with a new culture and to learn a new language. Projects vary according to the needs of the local communities. Length, departure dates and destinations are flexible.
